Spot an Orca
Look closely. From time-to-time this water-facing cam captures a killer whale (aka orca) breaching. Killer whales are actually part of the dolphin family. The local San Juan Island population is known as the Southern Resident Killer Whales. They are comprised of three pods, the J, K and L pods.
Unlike other killer whales which eat mammals, the Southern Resident population eats almost exclusively fish. They hunt using sonar, a unique echolocation process that allows them find their prey with extreme accuracy.
