Ride a Kenmore Floatplane!
a photo essay.
I jumped at the chance to fly from Friday Harbor to Lake Union (Seattle) on Kenmore Air. This has got to be one of the best parts of traveling to and from the San Juans. Here's a quick look at the trip...
Fred, our pilot, landed in Friday Harbor right on time to pick up myself and a few other spring travelers.
After a quick hop over to Deer Harbor, on Orcas Island, we headed south and caught a great view of Friday Harbor from the air.
The floatplane experience is like no other. You stay low enough to the water to get some great views of the islands.
I shot this wide panorama from the co-pilot's seat as we approached the Seattle area. Cool, huh?
This particular day was perfect for a floatplane trip. Clear skies and great visibility. Here we approach Seattle. It's hard to see in this shot, but Mt. Rainier is right there looming over the sound.
The approach the Lake Union is fantastic! We flew right towards downtown. The Space Needle was so close I felt I could touch it!
Pilot Fred pointed us Northward and we headed down to Lake Union and the Kenmore Air terminal, which is 5 minutes from downtown and 15 mintes from Seatac Airport.
I hope you enjoyed this little trip.
Kenmore Air has multiple flights to and from the San Juan Islands and Victoria, BC, daily. Check them out and make a floatplane trip part of your island's experience.
